How many views do you need for 4,000 watch hours?
Use average time actually watched, rather than video length. Starting from zero qualified hours, a constant four-minute average requires 60,000 additional views for 4,000 hours. A two-minute average requires 120,000 views; six minutes requires 40,000. These examples assume all additional watch time qualifies.
View conversion and remaining goals are separate
10,000 views × four minutes ÷ 60 gives about 666.67 watch hours. Separately, if Studio shows 1,000 qualified hours, the remaining 3,000 hours for a 4,000-hour goal require 45,000 additional views. Keeping these calculations separate avoids counting views already included in your current hours twice.
Which watch hours are excluded from YPP?
Total Analytics watch time can differ from qualified public watch hours in Earn. Shorts, private, unlisted or deleted videos, ad campaigns and livestreams that are unlisted, deleted or not converted to VOD are excluded. This calculator does not access your channel account or verify qualifying hours.
3,000, 4,000 and 8,000-hour goals
As checked on October 11, 2026, the expanded YPP watch-hour route requires 3,000 hours in the last 12 months, 500 subscribers and three valid public uploads in 90 days, alongside other requirements. The current ad revenue sharing watch-hour route requires 4,000 hours in 12 months and 1,000 subscribers. Shorts has a separate views route.
YouTube has announced an 8,000-hour threshold over the last 365 days for new ads and Premium applicants starting February 1, 2027. The 8,000-hour button compares that announced future threshold. Meeting numeric thresholds does not guarantee approval.
